Three Books: Chris

December 16, 2009

Profound and very technical book about doing theology from probably the greatest British theologian of the 20th century…

Theology in Reconstruction, T.F. Torrance
http://www.amazon.com/Theology-Reconstruction-Thomas-F-Torrance/dp/1579100244/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1260939239&sr=8-1

Every pastor today should read this and wrestle with it. He is right about a lot.

The Gospel in a Pluralist Society, Lesslie Newbigin
http://www.amazon.com/Gospel-Pluralist-Society-Lesslie-Newbigin/dp/0802804268/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1260939334&sr=1-1

Lastly, a popular book that has many parallels with Newbigin and Torrance in the realm of how knowledge and experience function.  Just think of the power of equipping a congregation to be able to think through a gospel lens in a “blink”.  As well as recognizing good theology from bad theology, as Torrance calls “Theological Intuition”.

Blink, Malcom Gladwell
