Walk This Way

April 29, 2010

New series.

I want to break out some of, what should be, the qualities and characteristics of Christians. Examples of men and women in the Bible. Teachings of people like Jesus and Paul. Examples of more contemporary Christians. Maybe some examples of non-Christians. We tend toward the mediocre in society today. It’s not about what I should do but what I can do. It’s no longer about trying to be the best we can be, but about what can I get away with. We love to talk about Christian liberties.

“God doesn’t mind if I do this.”

“The Bible doesn’t say that this is wrong.”

How about focusing more on what God desires us to do. What does the Bible say is right? Just because it’s okay, doesn’t make it right.

Now, some of you reading this might be thinking that I am going all ultra-fundamentalist on you.

Nah. Those of you who know me, know that I am not legalistic. You also know that I am not perfect, or even close to perfect. What I am is a man who struggles with what is okay, what is better, and what is best.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Let us not celebrate or even focus on mediocrity. Let us see the bar that has been set high and run toward the goal with our eyes fixed on Jesus. Our hearts focused on doing our best for the God who gave His best for us.
